A cover letter is also called an Application letter. It is a letter document that is sent along with your resume to provide additional details about your skills and the extra courses that you enrolled for. It generally includes some paragraphs that state your experiences and key learnings.
Since resumes are just considered plain fact sheets, a cover letter is considered to leave a greater impact on the employer. Most of the time your experiences are not paid much attention to in the resume but when the same is talked about in the cover letter it appears more beneficial.
Employers find it easier to use the cover letter to know about their employees and their skills. These letters seem more personal and attractive to let people know about you. These are essential because the employer can narrow down your experiences to find a good match with their requirements.

Look at your cover letter as a means of making a first impression. It is what is written in this letter that will make your employer choose you over hundreds of other applicants. Within the cover letter, you should write your interests and the amount of research you’ve done for the role you’re applying for.
Give details about your current, and experience that influences your ability to bring your best into the role. For example- if you’re applying for the position of a content writer, mention the courses you've done in a similar field and the past internships where you’ve contributed your skills.
Research your job description thoroughly and focus on all the points that they are looking for in the candidates. Write about how motivated and focused you are to secure the role. Explain how working with them is the most desirable option for you and how the job aligns with your career goals and perspectives.
However, it is always beneficial to keep the cover letter short and to the point, not go overboard with it, and focus on the details.
How to write a good cover letter?
Begin with an introduction and always customize while applying for different platforms. Address the letter to the hiring manager or you can also simply write “To whom it may concern”.
If you’re currently working, mention how you want to grow your career, and don't mention anything wrong with your previous or present job. Focus on writing about how you’re seeking to widen your skill set and how the job would benefit you. If you’re between jobs, focus on writing about your interests. Always write about the research you’ve done. Show it indirectly that you’ve done your research about the company’s experience. Be sure to look at the company’s website.
Always talk about why you’re interested in working for them as an employer and what makes you stand out from the other applicants. Always avoid repetition because it shows the employer that you didn't put in the effort or are trying too hard for the role.
